Making the Deal

August 5, 2009

Scene from College Swing: Gracie plays “Gracie Alden” is a descendant of the founder of Alden College.  For generations the Alden women have attempted to graduate from college and failed.  Whenever an Alden woman does graduate, she will inherit the college along all the financial prestige it carries.  Bob Hope plays “Budd” who is on staff at the college and has a stake in seeing Gracie take over the college.

Budd: Students come and students go, but the Aldens go on forever.

Gracie: Hello, Budd.

Budd: I bet among the many pages of these dusty volumes you’re finding many a nut to crack.

Bigger Than…

August 3, 2009

bette

In a scene of For the Boys, starring Bette Midler, the couple is mentioned TWICE! Bette and her costar, James Cain, are beginning a comedy act in the 40s and starting to do shows on the war-front as Bob Hope is famous for. The producer tries to convince the two to stay a team after they had a fight and uses the same line that Cain uses later to convince Bette to stay with the developing act.

The line is as follows:
We’re gonna be bigger than Burns & Allen, bigger than Hope and Crosby.

The movie couple of Bette and Cain go on to form a comedy act much the calaber of the old radio comedy called The Bickersons.

But how could they be bigger than the LEGENDS?
